Beach-lovers, it’s time to head to visit a hidden gem – Banana Beach!
Banana Beach: A Tranquil Retreat
Crowned as “Phuket’s secret beach”, Banana beach is fairly isolated, so not many people are aware of it. Situated between Bang Tao and Nai Thon Beaches, there are two different pathways that lend access to this secluded beach. However, fair amounts of people choose to rent a long tail from the nearby beaches to get there.
With 180 meters of untouched white sand, Banana beach is highly recommended for a day by the sea from November to May when the waters will be calm and clear, and therefore perfect for swimming and exploring the nearby rocks which are good areas for snorkelling.
The only restaurant that exists on this particular beach is a seafood restaurant that serves fresh fish from fishermen that deliver it straight on to the beach. Although there are not a lot of beach activities available, this adds to the natural tranquillity of Banana Beach and the grand tropical experience it has to offer.
Wine and Dine at Banana Beach!
A prime example of fine dining in Phuket is Siam Supper Club. This chic bar and grill arguably serves the very best meats, pizzas and fish dishes that you can find in Phuket.
You will probably be very appreciative of the extensive wine list, with such a luxury being rare within Phuket in general. The food is always rich and comforting, and is therefore a reliably good meal out if you want a break from Thai Cuisine.
With an antiquated atmosphere that is unique to Siam Supper Club, the interior design is sure to impress you as it adds to the classical ambience. Amazing black and white photographs adorn the walls as part of the design, and there is usually an interesting story behind each of them.
Sean, the hospitable and welcoming owner, knows some of the stories behind these photos and will happily tell you some of them in passing, which is bound to keep you entertained. Well-known amongst those who frequent Siam Supper Club, Sean, as well as his staff, provides excellent service with their friendly character and genuine interest for feedback.
The service and the food are therefore impeccable and the crowd that go to Siam Supper Club easily demonstrates this. A restaurant that is not mainly frequented by tourists, many loyal local residents tend to be regulars here. Therefore, this intimate atmosphere is sure to be a great escape from the crowded, touristy areas.
Tatonka is a restaurant serving a unique cuisine that the owner-chef Harold Shwarz created and entitled the ‘globetrotter cuisine‘. This entails fresh local products and combines them with cooking and presentation techniques that this well-travelled chef learnt in Europe, Colorado and Hawaii.
In keeping with the ‘globetrotter cuisine’, the dishes served here include the delights of fusion dishes such as ‘Peking Duck Pizzas’, as well as equally adventurous vegetarian and seafood dishes. Quality is definitely guaranteed here as the meticulous chef goes to the market everyday to pick up only the best of ingredients.
Served tapas-style, the dishes available here are made for being shared amongst family and friends, so you can experience a wide range of dishes. The only problem that you will have at Tatonka is narrowing down the dishes that you want to try from the quirky and extensive menu!
If you do have trouble deciding what delicacies take your fancy, there is also the tasting menu, which allows you to try a little of everything. If you want to experience something new and different, away from more traditional foods, then Tatonka is your best bet.
